JERANTUT: Pahang will continue to find ways to enhance the knowledge and skills of tourist guides and supervisors of freshwater sanctuaries in the state, says State Culture, Arts, Tourism and Heritage Committee chairman Datuk Shafik Fauzan Sharif.
Shafik Fauzan said that people in the two professions needed to be equipped with information on the environment and aquaculture so that they could inform visitors.
A recent initiative adopted by the state was to take them on site visits to Tasik Kenyir in Terengganu, he said.
“The participants in the visits were guides for places like Taman Negara, Fraser’s Hill, Cameron Highlands and Merapoh.
“We also had 15 supervisors from the Rakan Temoleh aquaculture sanctuary in Taman Negara, Kuala Tahan, and Hulu Tembeling.
“They were given insights on management and preservation of freshwater fish in the renowned lake, which attracted many visitors,” he said here recently.
Shafik Fauzan said the visits were carried out from time to time improve tourist guides in the state.
On the latest visit, he said the participants were exposed to various aquaculture species, their habitat, and biological and dietary habits.
“They can pass their knowledge to others and also give explanations to visitors during promotional campaigns,” he said.
Shafik Fauzan said that state tourism authorities would earmark sites for such visits to boost the two professions.
With latest information on flora, fauna, botany and aquaculture, they could satisfy the curiosity of visitors, he added. -- The Star Metro
