A LOOP is being added to the Mossy Forest boardwalk at Gunung Brinchang in Cameron Highlands to prevent visitors from getting lost.

Regional Environmental Awareness Cameron Highlands (REACH) president R. Ramasamy said the loop leads back to the entrance of the 200m-long boardwalk.

"In the past, some visitors lost their way because they wandered off the boardwalk amidst the misty environment.

"Missing planks and vandalised ropes along the boardwalk's wooden platforms are also being replaced," Ramasamy told The Star.

Renovation works, which started since October last year, should be completed by the end of the month, he added.

A spokesperson from the Pahang Forestry Department said the completion date had been extended due to poor weather conditions.

The boardwalk is often visited as it offered an incredible view of the misty tropical forest.

At the end of the boardwalk, a trail leads to the peak of Gunung Irau, which at 2,110m above sea level, stands as the tallest peak in Cameron Highlands and among the 10 highest mountains in Peninsular Malaysia.

The hike to the summit takes between two to four hours.

A visitor, Tay Sim Yee, 32, said she looked forward to visiting the boardwalk again once it reopens.

Tay had planned to take her pre-wedding photographs with the mystical forest, with the ground and its vegetation all covered with moss, as backdrop but found that it was closed due to renovation works.

"I am disappointed as it took some 15 minutes of driving through a narrow and challenging path from the main road to get here to find it has been closed to public," she said. -- The Star News
