KUALA KUBU BARU: A holiday trip turned tragic for a group of Singaporeans when one of them died in a road accident while another sustained injuries.

The tour bus they were travelling in crashed into a lorry at the 418.6 kilometre of the North-South Expressway near Batang Berjuntai, Rawang, at 4.40am yesterday.

One of the bus drivers was also hurt.

The tour bus was transporting 18 passengers and two drivers from Singapore to Cameron Highlands.

Tay Sok Hoon, 53, died on the spot from severe head injuries while Xu Hui Yue, 40, and bus driver, Ng Lee Seng, 46, suffered body injuries.

It is believed that the lorry had overturned after having skidded earlier.

Selangor traffic chief Supt Hussein Omar said the other passengers were unhurt.

“They left Singapore at 10.30pm on Thursday and were supposed to reach Cameron Highlands at 7.30am yesterday. They were to holiday there for four days,'' he added.

Tay's body was taken to the Sungai Buloh Hospital for a post-mortem while the injured passengers were admitted to the emergency ward there.

The lorry driver, Shahrulnizal Ahmad Bakri, 29, who injured his hands, has been detained. -- The Star.
