Wedding Reception in Cameron Highlands

Draw tourists to hold nuptials here
Sunday July 26, 2009

I wish to add some suggestions on ways we can attract more Chinese tourists to our shores in response to "Yen Yen ramps up tourism promo in China," (The Star, July 21).

Weddings, to the Chinese, are a big do.

Tourism Malaysia can promote "Made-in-Malaysia Wedding" packages or wedding tourism in its effort to attract one million tourists from China this year.

The Chinese, whether in Malaysia or China, look at nuptials as the most magical moment in their life and would spend their life savings for that very special occasion.

And with the world getting closer and closer today, weddings can be held just about anywhere you wish.

Weddings, as they say, are made in heaven, and Malaysia has plenty of heavenly places such as Penang, Langkawi, Redang or Tioman which are suitable for wedding and honeymoon destinations.

If seaside/island locations are not the preferred choice, one can opt for the highlands like Fraser’s Hill, Genting Highlands, Bukit Tinggi or Cameron Highlands.

Easy and frequent air connectivity between Malaysia and China today is a plus point to say the least.

Why can’t we be the perfect host for those seeking the right setting and ambience to plan their big day?

Furthermore, we have no language barrier, vast food choice, international marriage registry etc. for a perfect wedding.

As an overseas location, we might even be cheaper than elsewhere in the region.

I believe that of all the places that can be promoted as a wedding hub, Penang has everything to satisfy all your needs and wants, from scenic tropical spots to varied choices of hotels, sumptuous food, bridal houses, costume jewellery, photography and videography.

But best of all, a made-in-Malaysia wedding is simply magical and will be a moment to treasure as one can experience a "truly Asian" wedding that incorporates a touch of Malay, Indian, Nyonya or Eurasian flavour, in the wedding ceremonies or during a photo-shoot session.

Malaysia is a great place to spend a honeymoon, too.

Petaling Jaya.
